Spivey Consulting Group Statement on Supreme Court Race-Conscious Admissions Decision

Image Description: Statement on official letterhead, dated June 29, 2023, followed by the below message.

At Spivey Consulting Group, we believe that diversity, in all of its forms, provides an inherent value in both the individual and collective experiences of who we are, where we come from, how we got here, and how this has affected our places in the world—this will always be relevant.

In our over 250 collective years of experience as law school admissions officers, we have evaluated hundreds of thousands of applications for admission to law schools in the United States. We have seen the laws change and evolve with similar cases making their way to the Supreme Court, and we have seen how these decisions regarding race-conscious admissions have resonated in the admissions process. We have seen the impact of diversity in academic and professional environments, especially in law schools—where laws, policies, and the history and future of justice are discussed and taught. Diverse representation, in all of its forms, is critically important.

Without question, a learning environment of heterogeneous background and thought enhances the individual and society as a whole more than one of homogeneous experience and thought. This is not just our opinion, or that of nearly all law schools, graduate schools, colleges, and universities; it is derived from exhaustive longitudinal research and findings. When our nation is represented by all people and for all people, we are fundamentally at our best.

Spivey Consulting Group remains deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, especially in the law school admissions process and legal profession. We work consistently to increase equitable access for all to law school and the legal profession, and we will continue to do so moving forward. Our commitment to this goal will not change.

Signed,

Spivey Consulting Group
